I have never been good at any sports growing up. I found myself joining Karate at SCMA at the age of 42 and loving it! The staff is very supportive and we learn many practical self-defense techniques. I feel myself improving every day I come. My husband and daughter take Karate and love it too! Thanks SCMA. You rock!

My son and I both train at Steel City Martial Arts. We started 18 months ago in BJJ and liked the staff so much we decided to try Karate also. We have been taking Karate for 12 months now and my son has grown both mentally and physically in our time at Steel City Martial Arts. The staff is great! They are tough, but understand that people can not be forced to train. They encourage you to do your best at all times. This is not a dojo that gives out belts, everyone EARNS the belt/stripe that they get! Everything at Steel City Martial Arts is exceptional!

I have been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Steel City for approximately 4 months now. The instruction is clear, concise, and the attention to detail is incredible. The classes are fun, very involved, and the instructors are better than I could have imagined. Since my first day everyone has been very helpful in teaching me ways to improve my techniques. I would recommend Steel City to both kids and adults looking to get involved with martial arts. It is a great atmosphere as well as a great workout.

Ive been training at steel city since i was 5 years old and now i am 12 years old. I train in both karate and Brazilian jiu-jitsu and really enjoy both of them. The instructors are willing to take time to help you with the skills you learn there to improve yourself. i wouldnt be the person i am now if i hadnt trained at steel city. its also good cardio exercise and strengthens your muscles. Also you'll meet some very nice people. This is why i would pick steel city martial arts.

My son has been at SCMA for 9 months. He started when he was 6. I looked long and hard before I picked a school to send him to.
I had taken karate as a child, I have friends who have fought professionally. I have friends who have trained in various martial arts around the country and around the world. I knew exactly what I was looking for in a school for my boy.
I wanted someplace that was hard and tough on the kids, yet fun and inviting. Work hard play hard. SCMA is definitely that place. They work the kids as hard as they can and all the kids leave the mats dripping of sweat with the biggest smiles on their faces.
Sensei Achille and his whole staff are great teachers. Patient, tough and caring. This is definitely not a "buy-a-belt" school. The kids work hard and each and every belt achieved is earned and appreciated.
We didn't want to send our boy somewhere just so he could feel good about himself and his sudden rise in belt levels, we wanted to send our boy somewhere he could truely learn martial arts and develop the self esteem and confidence that comes along with that knowledge.
I'm confident we could not have chosen a better school.

I joined Steel City Martial Arts recently and I know that it was one of the best decisions of my life. Right away, I could see the difference in the level detail of instruction given to both kids and adults when compared to other schools I had attended. Moreover, there is a great atmosphere for learning created by Sensei Achille and the other instructors.

Starting in my early mid 30's I was a "late bloomer" to the martial arts. I was, to say the least, somewhat apprehensive about trying the martial arts at such a "late" age. Stepping through the door the first time was the hardest part of it all. Five years and one black belt later I realize it was the second best decision I could have made, the first was choosing Steel City.
Sensei and Lisa Achille, owners of Steel City, are fantastic people and the instructors are second to none. Regardless of your athletic abilities they can teach you the martial arts, and teach it to you as you need to learn it. This is not a one size fits all school.
Karate is my passion but I also have learned a little Jiu Jitsu. Same thing, the instructors are first class. Even the higher ranked students are willing to help, there are no "attitudes" here.
Take that leap, walk through the door. You won't regret it.

I would like to say that SCMA is the best of best when it come to Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Sonny Achille and all of the Bjj instructors at SCMA (Santino Brad John Jim)are first class people,Steel City instructors are the most patient laid backed teachers i have ever come across, giving everyone a chance to learn and perfect their technique's , starting here was the best decision i have ever made, no matter what age you are,or if you train somewhere else, just give SCMA a try, I guarantee that the bjj tranining you will receive at SCMA will suprise you, there are no ego's at SCMA and that come's from the head instructor, and it trickles down to us,as you can tell i am very happy here, I trianed at 2 other schools before i came here to Steel City,I will not say i waisted my time, but i admit this school is hard to compare to, it is that good. Thank Scma Mike.C

Parents; a word of caution. Being a great and talented athlete does not automatically qualify an individual to be a great teacher; however it is in this arena that Sensei Achille truly excels. His accomplishments in the sport combined with his patient, good natured approach to instruction qualifies him and his school as the best Martial Arts school in Pittsburgh.
Sensei Achille, his wife Lisa and all the instructors at SCMA are great role models for young and old alike. Through their leadership, the culture at SCMA embodies respect, hard work, achievement and fun. I can not imagine any another school or Martial Arts Instructors that I would trust with my daughter.

The environment is one of fun and learning. You can tell that the instructors are also having fun, which makes the classes so much better! Everyone is extremely nice and helpful, from the instructors on down to the newest students. It is a safe environment where you learn valuable lessons, and have fun!

My son is on the autism spectrum. He began training in karate @ SCMA 9 years ago at which time he was an akward, uncoordinated child with little self-confidence. He had experienced little success in other sports he had tried. Under the direction and training of Sonny Achille and his staff of excellent instructors my son has EARNED his black belt in karate and also trains in BJJ. He is now a young man at age 18 in top physical condition, self-assured, and more than able to defend himself. He has gained respect, friendships, and a place where he feels at home. Sensei Achille's patience, encouragement, and training have changed my son's life. There are only positive attributes to be gained by your child by joining the Steel City Martial Arts family.

My son has been taking karate class at Steel City for 1 1/2 years now. He had instruction at other schools before signing up at Steel City and I can honestly say that it is the best Karate school in the Pittsburgh area. To many other schools promote the kids onto the next belt before they are ready. Steel City actually wants these kids to succeed and they won't be promoted to the next higher belt until each individual child is ready to be promoted. The discipline, expectations and respect is second to none. Each one one these instructors need to be commended on their dedication that they bring to each class. It's nice to know that this is one place where you actually get what you pay for.

Steel City is far and away the best martial arts school that I have ever seen. My son and I both train BJJ at the school, and the instructors are highly proficient and very, very supportive. Sonny and Lisa Achille promote a safe, happy training environment. Students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds will feel welcome at the school, and will be provided the instruction necessary for them to reach their martial arts goals (for example, self defense, physical fitness, confidence, or competition).

When my 19 year old Daughter asked this 54 year old Dad to take self defense classes at SCMA, I was more than little apprehensive. But, I went and found it was, without a doubt, the best thing I have ever done for my daughter and for myself. The atmosphere at SCMA is very easy going. That's not to say that you do not work hard; you do, but the instructors make it all so enjoyable. We have learned amazing self defense techniques that even this old Baby Boomer can execute!
If you want the best Martial Arts clases for your children talk to the wonderful people at SCMA. And Parents - if you are looking for a better work out that is really alot of fun, join with your kids.

I like the instructors because they are so nice but also have taught me many things. This is the best place to learn any Martial Arts.
Not only have I learned all about Karate but I also learned the right way to workout and warm up. This will help me with other sports I enjoy.
The instructors at Steel City Martial arts have helped me to grow strong and to believe in myself. I have goals in karate and they help me to meet the goals this makes me feel good.
I have tried other sports but the coaches have never taught or helped me as much as the instructors at Steel City Martial Arts. Learning about Karate and the moves helps me enjoy the sport of Karate.
It is easy for me to learn the sport of Karate at Steel City Martial Arts because the atmosphere is calm and I am working at my own level. The instructors take their time and help me when I need it.

Steel City Martial Arts not only offers the best martial arts material in Pittsburgh, but also has hands down the BEST instructors. They are all very attuned to how each person learns, and therefore commit to every person's individual needs. Everything I have learned at SCMA has been useful because each move deals with a real life situation (in other words, realistic attacks from an aggressor and how to defend them). And if that's not enough, to top it off, it is a ton of fun. Even ancient people like my Dad can do it ;-)
Great atmosphere, great people (instructors AND members)- this place is simply the best.

I have been training at Steel City Martial Arts for ten years now. I began Karate at Steel City when I was 7 years old and have been training everyday since. With the excellent training programs, led by highly talented instructors, Steel City Martial Arts has shaped me into the person I am today, I have them to thank for everything. It offers realistic self defense and good workouts all in a great training atmosphere. The first day I stepped out on the mat, was undoubtedly the best day of my life.

Steel City Martial Arts is the top school in Pittsburgh by far, this school go's back to the old saying you get what you earn not what you can buy,i had my children in an other school and all they did was get promoted every other month for somthing, what it was I am not sure, but they did not earn it. At this school no childern can become a black belt before the age of 13, when I heard that this school would make the kids work for there belts I knew it was not about money it was about quality and learning self defense.Take it from me, visit any karate school in pittsburgh give them a try, then take yourself and your kids to a class at steel city you will see the difference.I take class there myself now so do my kids, we learn so much more here, thanks to all the instructors for making SCMA the best school in the U.S.
